ABOUT US

How it Began

Founded in 1840, Caldwell Methodist Church began as a small frontier congregation gathering under trees and in homes, led by traveling circuit riders who brought the hope of Christ to early Texas settlers. In 1841, the Republic of Texas granted the church a grove of land, and by 1854 the congregation built its first permanent sanctuary through shared sacrifice and faith. Through wars, economic hardship, cultural change, and seasons of growth, the church remained a steady presence in the community. Today, Caldwell Methodist continues that legacy—rooted in Wesleyan tradition, committed to biblical faith, and devoted to following Jesus together.

Walking in Faith Together

In recent years, we have walked through meaningful challenges—from the isolation of COVID to the difficult and prayerful season of disaffiliation. Change is never easy, and there were moments that stretched our faith and unity. Yet through it all, the Lord has been faithful. What could have divided has instead deepened our commitment to one another and to Christ.
Today there is a renewed sense of joy and expectation among us. We are discovering what it means to truly walk together—growing closer to Jesus and to each other as we step into this new chapter. As the Lord leads us into a vibrant future in the fullness of Christ, we carry a hopeful vision that He will continue to reach the lost in Caldwell, restore families, and build a strong, Christ-centered community for generations to come.

Statement Of Faith

Caldwell Methodist Church is a congregation of the Global Methodist Church.

We joyfully affirm the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed and stand within the Wesleyan tradition.

We believe in one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human, who lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and was raised to new life so that all who trust in Him may be forgiven and reconciled to God. We believe the Holy Spirit empowers believers to live holy lives, grow in grace, and bear witness to Christ in the world.

We hold that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and the primary authority for faith and practice. Salvation is a gift of grace received through faith, leading to transformation of heart and life. Through the power of the Spirit, we pursue personal holiness and social holiness—loving God with all our heart and loving our neighbors as ourselves.

As a Global Methodist congregation, we are committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly, for the glory of God and the renewal of our community and the world.
